WEEK IN REVIEW – SOUTH BEND
South Bend, Indiana -- The United States Attorney’s
Office announced that:
PLEAS:
Ø Michael Kincses, 54, of Mishawaka, Indiana, pled guilty before
Magistrate Judge Christopher Nuechterlein to the
felony offense of manufacture of marijuana.
Magistrate Nuechterlein is recommending that
the district court accept the tendered guilty plea. Parties have 10 days in which to object to
the magistrate judge’s recommendation. These charges were filed as the result
of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Indiana
State Police. This case is being
prosecuted by Assistant United States Frank Schaffer.
If convicted in
court, any specific sentence to be imposed will be determined by the judge
after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing
Guidelines.
DISPOSITIONS:
Ø Thurston LQ Jackson, 32, of South Bend, Indiana, was sentenced by Judge
Jon DeGuilio to 124 months imprisonment and 3 years
of supervised release after pleading guilty to the felony offenses of
distribution of crack cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug
trafficking crime, sale of a firearm to a convicted felon and possession of a
firearm by a convicted felon. In his plea agreement Jackson admitted that he
sold and distributed 2.6 grams of crack cocaine, as well as a Hi-Point, pistol
on January 6, 2012 for approximately $500 to a person that had previously been
convicted of a felony crime. He also sold and distributed 2.9 grams of crack
cocaine to the same person on February 6, 2012 for approximately $240. Also in
February 2012 he possessed an additional firearm. Jackson was previously
convicted of a felony crime, specifically, in 2009 possession of controlled substance
in Cook County, Illinois. This case was
the result of an investigation the by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms
and Explosives and the South Bend Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United
States Attorney Donald Schmid.
